I have been going to traditional craft shows for over thirty years. My husband and I had the privilege of chairing the Mercer Museum Folk Fest for seven years. We also chaired the Craft Committee for eleven years and got to know personally some of the best artisans in the country.

I also had the opportunity to serve as a judge for American Life Magazine’s annual listing of the “Top 200 Traditional Craftsmen.”

I have often felt that I was born too late. Cooking and sewing have been my favorite hobbies – and always “by hand.” Our house was built in 1871 and decorated with the handcrafts collected over several decades.

After retirement I knew I needed something to keep me busy, and I wanted to add my own works to our home. Since sewing was important to me, I started to research what I could make from the 18th and 19th centuries. Staring me in the face were “penny rugs,” which were hand stitched from scraps of wool with pennies as templates.

Not all of my wool is from scraps. I have been known to tell someone wearing a great plaid or tweed not to stand still for too long, or they might go home with a few holes in their coats.

My materials are 100% wool, felted wool, or felt with over 50% wool, pearl cotton #5 or #3, and my imagination.
